Sadly, the CSX trains have now mostly left Shreveport. During late 2009 and early 2009, we were blessed with a lot of CSX trains coming through town. This train was a full power moving a load of pipe up the surprisingly steep Wilson Alley grade. Downtown Shreveport is in the background. These triple tracks were busy, unfortunately, traffic is ow much less. |

Fire damage at the KCS Cafe |
| Description: |
Vagrants squatting in the KCS Cafe in Shreveport started a fire inside the long unused cafe. Sadly, the cafe had sat empty for years without being vandalized or damaged. After a new "rescue mission" opened up nearby, itinerants started breaking into the cafe to sleep, the front glass sustained damage and graffiti started appearing on the back. The fire did not do a lot of damage to the outside structure. The problem is that no one is sealing up the open windows or front doors, so the inside is now exposed to the elements. |

Ceiling Fire Damage to the KCS Cafe |

The old tin ceiling inside the cafe sustained a lot of damage from the fire. In the center of the photograph, you can see a hold in the roof. For the first time, the old cafe building will not have a watertight roof. There was also some damage to the cross beams, but it does not look that bad. The building's triangular shape creates a somewhat warped view on each side of the photo. |

The fire department removed all the boarded up doors in order to fight the fire. This is a view from the back side door looking into the old kitchen area. The stairs goes up to a room over the old kitchen and also to a roof access point (there is a billboard on the roof of the building). The "damage" in this area was caused by years of mildew and rot, and not the fire. |

Trespassing itinerant foolishly scoots across railroad bridge |
| Description: |
A KCS freight trains rumbles by a passing itinerant who is crossing the I 20 railroad bridge in Shreveport to get to a hangout underneath the Murphy Street overpass on the other side of the bridge. A well meaning man had hired four of these itinerants (who use the Murphy St. overpass as a drinking spot) to haul trash out from the hangout. Channel 12 even aired a story on the clean up, as the Murphy Street overpass had become a huge eyesore. The reporter, do gooder and itinerants were all oblivious to the danger of passing trains. KCS police eventually issued a trespass warning to the reporter, but after the officer left, the trash clean up and bridge crossing continued. |

With KCS 4609 and BNSF 9368 on the lead, only BNSF 8956 was needed as the rear distributed power unit on this empty TXU coal unit train returning north from Shreveport. While the loaded trains always have two units on front and two units on back, the empty train sometimes have only one unit on the back (and, on occasion, no unit). |
