After Amtrak I worked my way north to Gilman where I noticed that the L555 local to Otto would be sporting a Deathstar on the front. Exactly what I was hoping for. However, at the same time, I also heard peeps coming from the Bloomer frequency. I was a bit torn on what to do, but since I had never shot the Bloomer before I decided to make that my priority. Not even 4 miles out of Gilman and I picked up L555 keying up the dispatch ready to go north. I knew chances were if I chased the Bloomer I would not get back to the IC in time to see L555 come south, so I turned around and went back. Set up at Danforth, and boy was it worth it! |

Things went quiet after Amtrak, so I decided to move south to Onarga to sit for a bit. I waited a while until I could hear a TPW out of Gilman begin to work the Incobrasa Plant. I panicked and moved into Gilman to find that they were nowhere close to being ready to head east. Of course, as soon as I got back, CN sent a northbound. I tried to get back to Onarga, but I couldnt. Thankfully, I was able to outrace M335 to Danforth and grab it coming by the elevator and depot. |

With the Big Boys arrival into Watseka not being until 5 PM, we decided to begin our day in Illinois on the CN Chicago Subdivision. We were hoping for a deathstar leader on the daily local to Otto and back, but no such luck, as a SD70M-2 was assigned to that job that day. However, we did see a headlight for a road train when we crossed the tracks at north Gilman, so we raced north to Danforth and grabbed CN M335 coming by the elevator and depot with an ex-CITIRAIL GEVO on the head end. The first time either of us had shot one of these leading since CN acquired them. This day was starting out pretty well. |
