CN 9424 and the Falconer
Description:
This falconer seems to think, erroneously, obviously, that the railroad tracks are a good place to practice his unique craft. Meanwhile, behind him, a CN local approaches the Hwy. 10/Hwy. 441 overpass as it heads southwest via former C&NW rails at Stroebe, WI on 14 Jan. '17. Train took the siding to wait for a northbound local and had one locomotive, CN 9424. The original right of way used to pass where I was standing. The curve in the foreground was installed to cross over to the former SOO rails when portions of the C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were pulled up. The overpass is the approach to the Roland Kampo Bridge (a.k.a. the Polish Connection) over Little Lake Butte des Morts and is part of the interchange of Hwy. 10/Hwy. 441 (a.k.a. the Tri-County Expressway) and Hwy. 41.

Train was returning from Shawano. I’m not positive about the road number, the inane vandalism has partially obscured some of the numerals.

UP 6845 and UP 8482
Description:
An empty coal train idles away on the CN, former C&NW, siding at Stroebe, WI on 12 Aug. '17. Train was returning from Wisconsin Public Service's Pulliam Power Plant, a.k.a. J. P. Pulliam Generating Station, at Green Bay, WI and had three locomotives, UP 6845 and UP 8482 pulling and UP 6368 pushing. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI until 14 Apr. '16 (not Outagamie Co., where Stroebe was erroneously placed on this site)). The train rests amid the ongoing reconstruction of the Hwy. 41/Hwy. 441 (a.k.a. the Tri-County Expressway)/Hwy. 10 interchange (a.k.a. the Polish Connection). The overpass in the background is the connection from westbound Hwy. 10/Hwy. 441 (a.k.a. the Tri-County Expressway) to northbound Hwy. 41. The columns partially visible at left support the new, second bridge to carry eastbound traffic over Little Lake Butte des Morts. The columns partially visible at right support the original Roland Kampo Bridge (being extensively rebuilt) which will now only carry westbound traffic over Little Lake Butte des Morts. The interchange opened to traffic on 30 Nov. '75. When Hwy. 10 was reconstructed and relocated ca. '97, this interchange was not simultaneously reconstructed to form a full interchange, but the ongoing, extensive expansion and reconstruction will make it a full interchange as well as increase traffic capacity.

Description:
CN local parallels N. Lake St. and passes the ongoing reconstruction of the Hwy. 41/Hwy. 10/Hwy. 441 (a.k.a. Tri-County Expressway) interchange (a.k.a. the Polish Connection) as it heads northeast via former C&NW rails at Stroebe, WI on 23 Dec. '17. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI until 14 Apr. '16 (not Outagamie Co., where Stroebe was erroneously placed on this site)). Train was headed for Appleton, Little Chute, and Kaukauna.

A unit train of 3-bay covered hoppers, powered by an interesting visitor from out-of-town, rests on the CN, former C&NW, siding along W. Butte des Morts Beach Rd. at Stroebe, WI on 27 Mar. '18. I rarely see through freights with locomotives running long hood forward, so I thought this locomotive was at the tail end of the train. Wisely erring on the side of caution when they noticed the far signals activate, they realized that there was plenty of room to safely wait here until the local passed by. The Great Northern Corp. facility is partially visible in the background.

CN 7027 and a thieving trespasser
Description:
A CN local passes a trespasser and approaches Stroebe Rd. as it heads southwest via former C&NW rails at Stroebe, WI on 29 Apr. '18. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI until 14 Apr. '16 (not Outagamie Co., where Stroebe was erroneously placed on this site)). A few moments earlier, this trespassing thief and her male companion were walking on those tracks, stealing railroad scrap metal. While I was standing near the former SOO rails, in the foreground, waiting to photograph the approaching train, I watched each of them make at least two trips to their car to dump their backpacks full of scrap metal in their trunk. As I was capturing this photograph, the male was standing next to me. He came walking up to me because they were wondering what I was doing. The conversation started something like this. Numb-nuts, “What are you doing?” Me, “I’m standing on the side of a public road, minding my own business. What are you doing?” Mine was an angry, sarcastic, and rhetorical question, anyone could see that they were trespassing and stealing. Numb-nuts, “Me and my girlfriend thought you were acting suspiciously, so we were wondering what you’re up to.” Numb-nuts yammered nonsensically for a minute or two while I attempted to ignore him, hoping he would wander away. At some point Numb-nuts says, “You aren’t going to commit suicide, are you?” I replied, “No. It would be impossible to throw myself under a train here. There won’t be a train coming through on these tracks [the SOO tracks] anytime soon. However, there is a train approaching on those tracks you’ve been walking on [the C&NW tracks]. Oh, and there it is, right behind your girlfriend.” She had noticed it approaching and wisely moved off of the tracks. Numb-nuts continued to mumble gibberish for a few more moments. I continued to ignore him and continued photographing the train. Eventually he wandered off and they both drove away.
