V/Rail N-Class unit N466 has dropped its train and heads left to the engine facility at Southern Cross Station. 25 of the type were built; they carry turbocharged EMD 12-645 engines rated at 2450HP and are double-ended for passenger service on the V/Rail network. Although all but one of the tracks here are broad-gauged, the unit has just crossed over the dual-gauge track that is used by standard trains to/from Sydney and Adelaide. |

The 25 units of this class make up the majority of the V/Line's diesel locomotive units. Although most trackage is still broad gauge, the one stretch of dual gauge (standard and broad) track into Southern Cross Station is visable here. It provides access for XPT trains to Sydney and the Overland, which runs tri-weekly to Adelaide. |
