Description:  Long before an EMD unit wore the B&M #3820, this loco had the honor. This solid 4-6-2 Pacfiic was built by Alco-Schenectady in April of 1911.It underweent several rebuilds of its arch tubes and thermic syphon with Elesco feedwater hearter installated. After nearly 40 years of service, the loco was scrapped in May of 1951 Specs - class P-2-a (P-2-b in 12/1918, P-2-d in 7/1924), 73" drivewrs, 200psi boiler pressure, engine wt of 238,000 lb, tractive effort of 31,600 lab. Title:  BM 4-6-2 #3710
Description:  Much like its Alco-Schenectady sisters, this 4-6-0 Pacific instead was built by Lima in Decemeber of 1934 and was also a solid performer on the B&M roster. Interesting note from www.steamlocomotives.com "When the Boston and Maine took delivery of its second order of Lima Pacifics in 1937 [these would be the last 4-6-2s Lima would build for anybody], it sponsored a contest among New England schoolchildren to name those ten engines and ten other passenger engines. The contest was open to any pupil in any community along the railroad and included students from kindergarten to the final year of junior high school. to the locomotive a plate with the name of the boy or girl who suggested the name, as well as the name of his or her school. The contest elicited more than 10,000 names for the 20 engines." The name chosen for this loco was "Peter Cooper" The loco was scrapped in September of 1953. Specs - 80" drivers, impressive 260 psi boiler pressure, 23x28" cylinders, engine wt of 339,200 lb and tractive effort w/booster 52,800 lb. No date, location or photographer was listed for the photo.

Title:  PC GP40 #3182 - Penn Central
Description:  This 1968 EMD built GP40 has several points of distinction. First, it bares the "colored worms" Penn Central logo, not many locos carried that. Most were just plain white. Second, on August 21, 1969, barely a year and a half after delivery, it got loose from the South Bay yard and ran across the I-93 Expressway in Boston, cutting deep grooves in the pavement and ending up blocking both directions. Quite a history. It did go on to the Conrail roster and eventually the New Jersey Transit. Date and location are approximate. Unknown photographer.
