Iillinois Central Wood Sleeper, "Amboy"
Title:  Iillinois Central Wood Sleeper, "Amboy"
Description:  This older photo appears to be a builders photo of the Illinois Central wooden, open platform sleeper car named "Amboy" after the IC depot and division headquarters in Amboy, Illinois. No date, location or photographer was given for the photo. From "The Century of Pullman Cars", the Amboy is listed as having been purchased by IC. I would guess that Pullman built it but it could be Wagner Car Company as it was listed having built a lounge/drawing room car. Does anyone know for sure?.

Title:  CEI 0-6-0 #3641 - Chicago & Eastern Illinois
Description:  Standing outside the roundhouse at an unidentified location are two Baldwin B-4 class 0-6-0 switchers built between 1906-10. CE&I #3641 was built in June of 1906 as C&EI #19 (serial #28489, class S-38) but was renumbered in 1911 to C&EI 3641. It was leased to the KCS from 10/8/1942-6/5/1943. A Faked Meet of The Twin Cities Zephyrs
Title:  A Faked Meet of The Twin Cities Zephyrs
Description:  This is a publicity shot of a meet was made in the darkroom, i.e., it never happen as shown. The trains were built by EMC/Budd and delivered in Apri11935. The power cars were diesels and carried a model number AA and, at least initially, could not be disconnected from the train easily. The first A in the model number I assume stood for first series (the second series were Es) and the second A stood for A-unit as opposed to B-unit. Train 9901 became The Sam#Houston Zephyr and was destroyed by fire on 12/19/44. Train 9902 became The Ozark State Zephyr and retired 2/54 and scrapped 4/56. Exact date and location of the picture(s) is unknown but certainly soon after the trains were put into service in 1935 and was taken along the Mississippi River bluffs in Illinois (my guess) or Wisconsin.

Untitled
Title:  Untitled
Description:  According to www.steamlocomotive.com, this Consolidation loco has an interesting life. "In 1910, 10 wide-firebox Consolidations were logged in Alco's order book for the Buffalo & Susquehanna as their 169-178, the line went into receivership. The engines were redirected to several lines and #174 wound up on the C & IM. In 1938, it moved over to the Midland Terminal and was renumbered 61. 61 served the MT until the road was closed in 1949." The location appears to be Peoria, IL but nothing was written on the back confirming this. Francis Gschwind photo

Unfortunately, no date or location was listed for this photo but from the flat land it definitely looks like a Midwest farm area. Illinois Central 4-4-2 on the scrap line
Title:  Illinois Central 4-4-2 on the scrap line
Description:  Unfortunately, no number was visible on this stripped Illinois Central 4-4-2 Atlantic type steam locomotive as it spent its last days sitting in a scrap line somewhere in Illinois - possibly in the Cicero yard where many of these locos ended up. It's sad not to have a name on this "tombstone" photo. No date or location was given for th photo so an approximate date was used.. R.H Carlson photo

WAB 4-8-2 #2807
Title:  WAB 4-8-2 #2807
Description:  When compared to some of the earlier locomotives in this album built in 1890's and early 1900's, this massive 1930 Baldwin locomotive is powerful, sophisticated and the product of years of constant research and development. This Mountain-type locomotive boasted 70" drivers and a whopping 235 psi boiler pressure but came near the end of steam. It was retired sometime between 1953-55, barely working 25 years. No known survivors of this class are known. No known location or date for this photo made by Forrest Trittenbach.
