Title:  Heading West at Tunnel City
Description:  A CP Rail train heads west toward the bore at Tunnel City. The jointed rail in the foreground is a Union Pacific former CNW branch to Medary (LaCrosse). The CNW had its own bore through the ridge at Tunnel City, which collapsed in 1973. After the cave in, the CNW acquired trackage rights to share the line through with the Milwaukee Road.

Description:  Looking west from County Road M at Tunnel City. The connection from the old CNW right of way comes in from the right. CNW had their own route through town, with a tunnel of their own. The CNW bore collapsed in 1973 after which, the CNW built a connection track to the Milwaukee so they could both use the same bore. The CNW line west of the Tunnel was abandoned, as the CNW then used the Milwaukee Road track to Medary. (east side of La Crosse ) The Union Pacific now uses these trackage rights.

Description:  Looking east along the curve of the connecting track to the original alignment of the CNW line at Tunnel City. The branch comes from Wyeville to the east. This is now Union Pacific property. The fact that it is jointed rail shows it is not as major a line as the welded rail of the CP through town.
