Track speed
Title:  Track speed
Description:  at 79mph it does NOT take them long to pass! If you take a close look you can see that it is easy to tell which track is the main and which one is the siding, which in this case is also the old westbound!

it's not very favorable
Title:  it's not very favorable
Description:  But it does allow you to have something better than red! I have spent a fair amount of time watching and studying these signals to see what they display and how they operate with different traffic patterns. I think that I like them! They are NOT the kind of signals with which I grew up and then spent most of my life around, but I like them because they are different! It just goes to show that different people in different places do the same things differently! And that can be fun!

it's a fast running railroad
Title:  it's a fast running railroad
Description:  Here is the part that I really like! Just as soon as Amtk8 cleared the ctc switch, it came over into the reverse position and the signal cleared for the eastbound to follow. Granted that the signal is only a lunar which is NOT very favorable, but it does allow for a heavy and perhaps over tonnage train per the available horsepower to start pulling! It also allows for the local to come out into an occupied block proceeding at restricted speed! Since amtk8 is running away from us normally at 79 mph, the signal will NOT stay lunar very long as we will soon see!

it wasn't a long wait
Title:  it wasn't a long wait
Description:  it did NOT take long for amtk8 to clear the block and so the signal was then allowed to become and thus then display approach. Now the eastbound who had been pulling but holding back would be much happier to advance on this more favorable indication!

Description:  and about to enter the main track behind amtk8. I suppose that the signal that we saw go from lunar to approach has probably by now went clear! But I was NOT there to see it do so. Nice day and a nice picture!

Passing over the ctc switch
Title:  Passing over the ctc switch
Description:  and ready to cross county road "J" in Rockland about 0.1 miles from our new home! As a retired BNsf train dispatcher, I think this is a really great place in which to live! It is good to be back out in the field and away from all those computer screens. As much as I enjoyed it, I enjoy this much more. The best part of which is being home in the Northland and in the Great River valley once again!

Title:  and the Soo/ CP local it was NOT
Description:  Much to my happiness and surprise the Soo/ CP local it was NOT. Instead it was "Uncle Peter" with four units in their engine consist which is NOT normal! Usually there are two back to back and sometimes three. It should be a very big and heavy train out of Winona tomorrow! Notice the green flag for an eastward movement at mp263.

Whose railroad
Title:  Whose railroad
Description:  On the crossing and taking siding. But whose railroad is it did you say?! Well this is the old CNW Winona job going west on the Soo/ CP which used to be the Milwaukee Road double track! But it gets better because the old CNW main is right next to this on the other side! This train is heading west to Winona and thus up the Great Mississippi River valley. Why are they here you ask?! Now that is a whole other story!

the unanswered question
Title:  the unanswered question
Description:  ok I'll tell you how but NOT why they are here! It is because their old main line here in Wisconsin, 101 miles of it is now a state owned hike/ bike and snowmobile trail! As to the rest of the story you need to understand the things that happened at Tunnel City many years ago! And I'm holding on to that one as another story for another time.

Title:  First train over the new rock
Description:  After the track work, this was the first train to pass over the new rock ballast so as you can see that there is a little bit of dust! But wait until you see the amount of dust from the ballast regulator when it was working here earlier today along with the track surfacing machine! Now that was a very good show!
