A five-headed 281 blasts west approaching Salisbury Road
Title:  A five-headed 281 blasts west approaching Salisbury Road
Description:  Ho-hum leader, but the 2nd through 4th units are quite interesting. It's relatively unusual to see BNSF power on this line, and when it does show up it's usually on unit trains of some sort. The 4th unit is BNSF 740, one of the only three 700-series Dash 9s delivered in HII paint instead of the red and silver "faux Warbonnet" with BNSF lettering.

CP 9538 West roars across Salisbury Road
Title:  CP 9538 West roars across Salisbury Road
Description:  The 9500s in the CP Rail "Dual Flags" scheme weathered even worse than the later "Golden Beaver" units. It looks like this one has received a touch-up on the cab side numbers, otherwise they would be as badly peeled as the nose "CP" and long hood logo. Its RCMP "Carrousel de la GRC" (Musical Ride) decal is also still legible, which can't be said for all of them.

Title:  And I thought the 8100s were clean!
Description:  In addition to the AC4400CWM program, CP has also begun rebuilding and renumbering some of its old standard cab SD40-2s, complete with a shiny red coat of the resurrected Golden Beaver scheme!

CP 5108, bright and shiny second out on 281
Title:  CP 5108, bright and shiny second out on 281
Description:  Notice the strobe lights, a feature which seemed to fall out of fashion on locomotives and would now appear to be making a comeback. My only slight complaint with these units is that they removed the Canadian-style bell between the numberboards, but left the empty mount. The units now have an e-bell in the standard, underframe location just ahead of the fuel tank on the conductor's side.

CP 8709 leads eastbound ethanol train 650
Title:  CP 8709 leads eastbound ethanol train 650
Description:  This is one of CP's first order of GEVOs, on the rails now since 2005. The nose was replaced following a fiery grade crossing accident with a propane truck at Callaway, MN in early 2016, thus why it looks much cleaner than the rest of the locomotive.

CP 9824 blasts toward Salisbury Road on the point of a large WB autorack/intermodal train #199
Title:  CP 9824 blasts toward Salisbury Road on the point of a large WB autorack/intermodal train #199
Description:  Unusual to see two units up front on this train these days...there was a third (9723) mid-train. 9824 would appear to be a former Holiday Train unit. Those have been handled by GP20C-ECOs since 2014.

Title:  CP 9829 rounds the Salisbury Road curve with 1st 580
Description:  This was the first of two trains that had been stacked in Wyocena Siding waiting on 2WWA-03, 281, and 199. I sacrified the second (manifest 280) due to receiving some intel on another, more interesting movement.

Pair of GE rebuilds on 287
Title:  Pair of GE rebuilds on 287
Description:  Based off a post on Facebook, I had got the impression that the leader was one of the group of newly released, factory fresh upper 8100-series. No such luck. This train went around 281 at Dodge West, after the latter train had an air hose separate. This cost me an opportunity to catch it (with its Heritage SD70ACU leader and maroon HLCX Geep in the consist, per the heads up), as I had to leave for home immediately after 287 went by me.

Bright red Golden Beaver units look sharp in the late spring afternoon light
Title:  Bright red Golden Beaver units look sharp in the late spring afternoon light
Description:  Quite (pleasantly) surprising to us railfans that CP began repainting their remaining SD40-2s early last year, despite them being mostly relegated to MoW/work train service (like these ballast trains) by 2018 or so.
