CN through freight crosses what used to be the N. Union St. grade crossing and is about to disappear behind the north side of the historic Tuttle Press Co. mill as it heads northeast via former C&NW rails at Appleton, WI on 13 Jul. '13. Train was enroute to Green Bay from Stevens Point and had two locomotives, CN 2608 pulling and CN 5343 pushing. The factory dates to 1905, it later operated as Artfaire and finally as Sulpaco West, Inc. For nearly a century this facility produced a variety of renowned specialty papers: napkins, table covers, tissue, craft paper, paper dolls, gift boxes, crepe paper, and especially gift wrapping paper, until Sullivan Paper Co. shuttered this plant on 27 Jun. ’02 and moved production to one of its other facilities in Mass. Since then it appears to have been used as storage for one or more local businesses. There used to be a diamond on the opposite side of the tracks and to the left, where two spurs intersected to service several industries in that block. |

A CN local, with a friendly engineer, passes the historic Eagle Manufacturing Co. complex, partially visible in background, as it heads northeast via former C&NW rails at Appleton, WI on 23 Aug. '13. Train was enroute to Little Chute and Kaukauna. Eagle Manufacturing Co., makers of gasoline engines, tractors, and other farm implements, was incorporated in Dec. 1888 in the Flats at Appleton, WI. They began construction of this new factory in 1904, after they outgrew their original facility. It shared that block with the Ideal Lumber and Coal Co. and C. D. Rowell & Son, Manufacturing, makers of car movers. Eagle erected several additions over the years until it occupied most of the block. The historic factory was demolished in late-2014/early-2015 and some wonderful new apartments or condominiums are in the final stage of construction as of Aug. ’15. There used to be a diamond on the opposite side of the locomotive, where two spurs intersected to service several industries in that block. |

| Description: |
Located along the former CNW right of way from Appleton to New London (the current terminus)is U.S. Paper Converters. This facility is fairly busy with rail traffic on a route originally built by the Milwaukee, Lakeshore & Western Railway. The 796 mile Milwaukee, Lakeshore & Western was bought by the Chicago & Northwestern August 19, 1893. Much of this once major player in Wisconsin rail's track has been abandoned over the decades. U.S. Paper Converters has numerous car spots and will hopefully continue to provide business for years to come on this now Canadian National line. |

This old CNW swing bridge is still in operation spanning the Fox River navigation`l canal. This bridge is located on the east end of the "flats" area that used to be heavily industrialized. The area now has few industries left and is becoming redevelopen with apartment housing and some trendy new establishments. Although there isn't much work for the railroad down here anymore, the line remains open so the CN can get to industries serwed on the south side of the river in Appleton, Kimberly and Combined Locks. |

The building was formerly Marshall Brothers Wholesale Paper, a.k.a. Marshall Paper Co., est. 1893. It used to receive rail service, the spur was on the opposite, north side, of the building. |
