Before General Electric completed its own test track at its Fort Worth plant, new locomotives were tested on the BNSF Fort Worth Subdivision main line heading north from the GE interchange. The trains, with either two or four units, were operated by a BNSF crew with two engineers and a conductor plus whatever technicians GE needed. A southbound BNSF train behind ES44AC 6094 and C44-9W 5126 was rolling passed the Wabtec/GE interchange at Justin, Texas. The name of this switch on the BNSF is Lambert. The locomotives on the interchange were BNSF rebuilt B40-8W’s 526 and 514 along with new Canadian National ET44AC 3173. This is a mile and a half north of Wabtec/GE’s Fort Worth plant, and at one time the track in the right foreground was the BNSF (ex-ATSF) main line between Fort Worth and Oklahoma City. BNSF eventually rerouted its main line, GE acquired a part of the old BNSF line for use as a connection and a test track, added a second track (on the left) and extended a single track a mile and a half to the north (going off on the right). |

Here was a view looking south along Justin Cemetery Road at the north end of the Wabtec-GE test track, three miles north of the Fort Worth locofotive assembly plant. On the right were Canadian Pacific AC4400CWs 9525, 9523,9554, 9539 and 9501, part of 10 such units which were having their traction motors remived by a CP crew with help from Hulcher Services out of nearby Saginaw because the railroad had an urgent need for AC traction motors to repair flood-damaged units. The dlatbed semi just ahead was one of many such rigs that were used to bring the motor-axle combos up to Canada. In the distance new Canadian National ET44ACs 3193 and 3208 were going through their 50-mile certification process. |

The 198-car train weighed 5,253 tons, was 8,307 feet long and was on its way from Elmendorf, Texas to the Canadian Pacific at Kansas City. Here is a view facing south from milepost 1.5 on the Wabtec/GE test tracks a mile and a half north of the company’s Fort Worth assembly plant. The left track was previously the ATSF/BNSF main line from Fort Worth to Oklahoma and points north, and milepost 368 can be seen next to the crossing bungalow. The right track - with the concrete ties – was built for GE after it acquired the BNSF line, and Farm-to-Market Road 156 is on the rigit. |

Here were the snow plows from 11 Canadian Pacific AC4400CW units at the north end of the Wabtec/GE test track in Justin, Texas. These were left over after CP and Hulcher personnel had been reioved the traction motor/axle combos from the locomotives and these parts were trucked back to Canada. Each plow wore the number of the loco it had been on! |
