Brady Union Passenger Depot - the amazing things you can sometimes stumble across when you least expect it. Off the Texas Historic Landmark seal: "Union Passenger Depot - The Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway built the first rail line into Brady in 1903. Eight years later the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railroad constructed a second line into town. This depot, built in 1911, was designed for passenger use for both railways. After 1946, it also was used for freight service. Prominent features of the depot include the corbeled brickwork, segmented arches, the red tile roof, and a parapet over the observation bay." And when we were there, I think someone accidentally left the gate open, because it didnt appear to be officially open, but the kind folks of Texas put up with us wandering around anyway - thank you. |

And right across the road form the depot was the Heart of Texas Railway office and service yard - although at this point, I thought we were pushing our luck on wrong turns and oops, sorry up and down the streets of Brady, so I didnt push our luck (or getting the stink eye from my co-pilot) going down until someone decided to run me off - so unfortunately, there were at least two more of those wonderful livery locomotives down in there that looked like they wouldve been just as amazing as the three holed up out in the fields east of town... maybe next visit (or the next railfan?). |
