| Description: |
One of just a handful of remaining bridges that still have the Western Maryland Railway speed lettering visible. This was bridge number 2529 and was built in 1912 as part of the new Connellsville Extension. It was last painted in 1955, so it is a miracle this lettering is still here. Abandoned by WMR in the mid-70's, this bridge was abandoned for about 20 years but eventually found new life as part of the Great Allegheny Passage in 1995. |

This was the train's second trip of the day. These railroad tracks are formerly the B&O "Sheepskin Line". At one time there was a second track off to the right. It has been announced that this will be the final year that these passenger trains will be able to run on the old Sheepskin Line, due to an increase in freight traffic volume for the SWP Railroad which uses this same line. |

Stranded SWP 2003 |
| Description: |
On this snowy Sunday afternoon the SWP railroad attempted to make a run up the ex-B&O Sheepskin Branch with a train of loaded sand hoppers. That did not go according to plan. Over a foot of snow on the tracks made the train bog down in no time. It got as far as O&B Junction in Wheeler Bottom and here it sits. The conductor tries in vain to put sand onto the tracks. There was traction to be had. Maybe a Jordan Spreader, rotary plow or something similar would have been able to clear a path but it is not like the SWP owns anything like that. They eventually gave up and shoved their train backwards across Greene Junction to CSX. Other engines on the train were SWP 2001, SWP 2006, and AVR 2004. |

The train number is Z687-05, because it is coming off the CSX Keystone Subdivision on the other side of the river. |

The tamper-aligner working underneath the Bowest Bridge that is part of the Great Allegheny Passage. People familiar with this location will notice that the grade crossing has been removed. A temporary one was put in about 200 feet away. I checked back again on July 16 and a new paved crossing was put in here, right under the bridge. This work on the Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad is being done by Delta Railroad Contractors. |
