Built in 1859 by the Hanover Junction Railroad, this old station is one of two that once served the railroads in Gettysburg. It was at this station, now a museum, that President Abraham Lincoln arrived to deliver his famous Gettysburg Address. The tracks to the left of the depot would later become part of the Western Maryland Railway and still see use by CSX Transportation to this day. Note the old semaphores on the roof, once used to give train orders and long since replaced by modern signaling equipment. |

Gettysburg & Harrisburg Railroad Depot |
| Description: |
This station, built in 1884, served passengers looking to travel to the town of Gettysburg as interest in the historic battlefields in the later years of the 19th century began to increase. In 1891 the depot became part of the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad system as part of their takeover of the Gettysburg & Harrisburg. Passenger service under the Reading Company would continue until 1941 due to highway competition and it would be a few decades before the station saw passengers again. After a few years as the originating point for various tourist excursions for different operators, the most recent being Pioneer Lines Scenic Railway, the 132 year old building is quiet again with only freight trains passing on the tracks outside. |

It was less than a decade ago that one could take a passenger train over the former Reading Company tracks that come into historic Gettysburg from Mount Holly Springs to the north. Those days are unfortunately long gone with this sign in front of the depot one of the few reminders of one of the many tourist railroads that operated in the Keystone State. The last passenger train left Gettysburg in 2008, the railroad now only operating freight. |
