Description:  This General Electric drawing from May 1937 illustrates the basic appearance for 80-tonner serial numbers 12184-12188, which were buil} in October and November 1937 as demonstrators for the Cummins Engine Co. (Note that the step locations varied or changed over time.) Serial numbers 12184, 12186 agd 12188 were subsequently sold to Republic Steel, while 12185 and 12187 went to the Northeast Oklahoma Railroad as 254 and 253, and in 1949 they became Louisiana Soushern 505 and 504. Both of these units were scrapped at Chatham Iron and Metal in Savannah, Georgia.

Description:  Erie, PA August of 1951. The city of Erie was having a week long celebration of their centennial. Also in this consist are the flat car, an NKP caboose and boxcar. According to the source of this info, there were stairs erected to allow access to the all this equipment, it would have been on the left side of the engine. This was NKP's small yard in Erie near Holland Street. Thanks to J. Kreider for this information

Description:  Extra Board. Here is a clipping entitled "Rail Midget and Giant" that compares mine with mainline motive power. It was published originally in a 1952 issue of "Popular Mechanics," page 126. The "Midget" in the foreground is a battery-powered mine shifter built by General Electric. The "Giant" in the background is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4941, an E-2B electric constructed by GE in June of 1951, rated at 2,500 horsepower, and retired in June of 1965 after just 14 years of experimental service.

All were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. #5785 was constructed as a BP-20 passenger unit in November of 1948 (rated at 2,000 horsepower), rebuilt in 1952 as a BF-16Z freight unit (rated at 1,600 horsepower), and retired in 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service.

Description:  Oil Power. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by Jim Scott that was taken at the Wintergarden Gorge near Erie, Pennsylvania, on 27 March 1965. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5703, an EP-22 built by GM-EMD in September of 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. It is pulling a three-car consist in the last run of Train #581 between Erie and Harrisburg. Slide produced and distributed by the Lake Shore Railway Historical Society.

Description:  Here is a post card via Peter Outerbridge entitled "Embraceable U." Caption On Reverse: "Pennsylvania Railroad's voluptuous U25C No. 6506 delivered 2,500 hp in a reliable new locomotive introduced in the mid-1960's. It was General Electric's first big 6-axle diesel and, as with many other full-figured diesel models, Pennsy was one of the first railroads to embrace it." Shown here is PRR engine #6506, a GF-25A built by General Electric in April of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. The photographer's name, the exact date, and the location are not recorded.
