"Trains" Magazine, December 1945
Title:  "Trains" Magazine, December 1945
Description:  Here is an advertisement that was published originally on the back cover of the December 1945 issue of "Trains" magazine. Depicted here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6200, the S-2 (6-8-6) "Steam Turbine" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during September of 1944, rated at 6,900 horsepower, and retired in January of 1952 after just eight years of revenue service. Title:  BLW 0-6-6-0/1 DE #2460 - Baldwin Russian Export
Description:  Great Baldwin builder's photo of a very rare diesel. According to one online source, "At the end of WWII the US Armed Services ordered 30 road freight diesels for export to Russia to help rebuild the Russian railroad system. They were Baldwin's first export diesels. These 1000 hp units were powered with an 8 cylinder VO engine and rode on 5 foot gauge Commonwealth C-type trucks. This model was only built for the Russian export order and was designated Baldwin class "0-6-6-0 1000/1 DE". The Russian's called these Class Db." Before shipping, the units were lettered USA #2460-2489 but on delivery the Russians renumbered them as Db-20-71 to Db-20-100.
