CN Bridge
Title:  CN Bridge
Description:  The CN replaced the CNW swing bridge during 2012 and 2013 with this bascule style bridge. The old bridge was much more picturesque but this new one opens and closes much quicker, allowing for more efficient flow of marine and rail traffic. It is still amazing to see that some boaters still become very annoyed at having to halt their pleasure trips up and down the river between Lake Winnebago and Lake Buttes des Morts for a few minutes as the trains go through. The view is of the east side of the bridge, looking up the Fox River.

Looking Toward Oshkosh
Title:  Looking Toward Oshkosh
Description:  Looking back toward Oshkosh along the former Wisconsin Central (Soo Line) right of way from Butler Avenue at Winnebago. The old CNW right of way is just to the left of the line poles, but torn out. There are some relics in the weeds along the roadbed to trip over. It would make a nice trail between Neenah and Oshkosh. The silos are for Bemis Performance Packaging, just a few hundred yards from the Snell Road grade crossing.

CN 2574
Title:  CN 2574
Description:  Between Neenah and Oshkosh, a fast moving CN freight soars along the former Soo Line / Wisconsin Central main at Winnebago. The C&NW right of way through the Fox Valley to Green Bay is about 50 feet to the right of the rails. The C&NW right of way no longer has rails or ties, it would make a great trail along an active rail line. Some time ago, there was a spur off the C&NW line here to the state hospital, known as Winnebago. This line has certainly changed over the last couple decades. Twenty years ago it was a busy line for the modern Wisconsin Central, with a fairly large number of local industries to serve. Now, though the number of local businesses has diminished, the main is busier than ever as part of a trans-con for the CN.
