Album Info:On May 1, 1971, Amtrak took over virtually all of the long distance passenger trains in the United States. At first, it repainted classic railroad equipment but starting in the late-1970s bought new locomotives and equipment. Here are some photos of the "pointless arrow" (its nickname based on its first logo) from the 1970s onward.

Description:  A forty-year-old GG1 in the livery applied to all too few of the old PRR electrics heads a train of new Amfleet coaches in November 1975 arriving at Stadium in South Philadelphia with an Army-Navy Game train from Washington. The old GG1s were not converted for the newer head end power (HEP) and you can see a generator car between the engine and the train.

Description:  Another of the ex-PRR GG1s on an Army-Navy Game special at Stadium in Philadelphia in November 1975 in the rare full Amtrak livery. If I remember correctly, this paint scheme was first applied to the GG1s that pulled the refurbished Broadway Limited between New York and Harrisburg. The train is an older steam-heated one, so no generator car was needed.
