Former site trestle for B&O/WLE connection track
Title:  Former site trestle for B&O/WLE connection track
Description:  This location is where there once was a wooden trestle spanning the Cuyahoga River that existed along the old interchange track between the B&O and the Wheeling (WLE, not WE). N&W discontinued service on the interchange in the late 1970s and the track sat dormant until the mid to late 1990s when it was removed. I only have foggy memories of this bridge now.

NS Cleveland Line (C&P) over the Cuyahoga River
Title:  NS Cleveland Line (C&P) over the Cuyahoga River
Description:  A view of the NS Cleveland Line's low-clearance trestle over Ravenna Road and the Cuyahoga River. This line was originally a part of the C&P. About where I'm standing is where the former alignment of the C&P once existed. To my right is where the original alignment would've crossed the river but there's absolutely no traces of that bridge left.

Former LE&P trestle
Title:  Former LE&P trestle
Description:  This is the last remaining LE&P trestle that has track on it. It is hidden in the woods north of Kent, Ohio. This line was once a part of the Lake Erie & Pittsburgh Rwy, a paper railroad that existed between Brady Lake and Cleveland but was operated by the New York Central and maintained by the PRR (if memory serves me correctly). The Penn Central abandoned and removed most of the line, leaving only a 2 or 3 mile segment that accessed a stone plant just outside of Kent. The stone plant no longer uses rail service and now this line sits dormant with rumors now surfacing that this trestle failed bridge inspection.

Former LE&P trestle
Title:  Former LE&P trestle
Description:  I ventured underneath the single remaining LE&P trestle that still has track over it. Buried in the woods north of Kent, this bridge is a hard one to get to. Notice the crumbling concrete on the pier in the foreground. This may confirm the rumor that this bridge did not pass inspection. With these structural problems, this bridge/track may never see service again.

Former LE&P trestle
Title:  Former LE&P trestle
Description:  I walked to the south side of the LE&P trestle to get some decent lighting. Regardless of the trees in the way, I still wanted to shoot this thing before it was removed. If it were to be removed without me getting photos, it would have nagged me endlessly from then on. This side of the trestle is showing a lot more wear than the other side.

Former LE&P, looking west
Title:  Former LE&P, looking west
Description:  Atop the trestle in Kent, I took a photo looking west on the remaining piece of the LE&P. In the VERY far distance, you can see the track duck beneath Route 43. This was the site of a mishap involving a doublestack about 8-10 years ago. When a crew attempted to spot a bad-ordered doublestack, it got jammed beneath the highway overpass which resulted in the closing of the road for several weeks while the bridge was inspected and repaired.

Former LE&P, looking east
Title:  Former LE&P, looking east
Description:  Looking east from the trestle, we can see straight to the point where the LE&P ran into the C&P (now the NS Cleveland Line). Notice that the track jogs in the foreground. This is where it assumed the position of the eastbound (southerly) main and left the position of the westbound (northerly) main. In the distance to the left of the track, you can notice a bit of a grade taking off. This is where the westbound main came downhill from it's "flyover" crossing the C&P. There used to be a decent sized trestle over the C&P that was removed as a part of Conrail's doublestack-clearance project in the 1990s. The eastbound LE&P main went straight downhill and into the C&P.

Looking across the Cuyahoga River
Title:  Looking across the Cuyahoga River
Description:  Looking across the Cuyahoga River offers a view of what was once the east end of the trestle that existed on the B&O/WLE connection track. The rippling of the water near the middle of the photo is caused by the sawed-off wooden posts that were once a part of the supports for the bridge. This bridge was removed in the mid to late 1990s and is now a distant memory to me. It's unfortunate that I never got any photos and now can't find any. This bridge and surrounding area are mostly responsible for my interest in the hobby.

B&O to WLE connection track
Title:  B&O to WLE connection track
Description:  This mound covered in weeds and snow was formerly the west end of the trestle spanning the Cuyahoga River that was along the B&O-WLE interchange track. When the trestle still existed, this was the end of the path. In fact, the path never was continued until about 3 or 4 years ago. This was once a pretty desolate area. Again, it's very unfortunate that I never managed to grab photos of this bridge prior to its removal. I was very young when it met the torch.

Wheeling & Lake Erie Cleveland Subdivision
Title:  Wheeling & Lake Erie Cleveland Subdivision
Description:  Continuing west on the fairly new path in Kent, we come to the trestle spanning the Cuyahoga River and CSX New Castle Subdivision. This trestle is along the Wheeling & Lake Erie's Cleveland Subdivision, which was formerly the N&W, NKP, and original Wheeling & Lake Erie. Up until 3 or 4 years ago, access to this bridge was much more difficult as there was no path yet.

Wheeling & Lake Erie Cleveland Subdivision
Title:  Wheeling & Lake Erie Cleveland Subdivision
Description:  A sign giving a brief history of the Wheeling's Cleveland Subdivision and the trestle exists along the path, available for all pedestrians to read. This path was a nice addition as it made access to this area much simpler. As a kid, I would have to wade through the dense brush to reach these spots!

Reflection of the trestle
Title:  Reflection of the trestle
Description:  I took a photo of the reflection of the trestle in the murky waters of the Cuyahoga River, then decided to flip it. This caused a mirrored effect of what I actually saw when looking at the trestle from my vantage point. There is some graffiti about halfway onto the bridge along the framework. I don't want to know how they managed to get there.

Title:  Pilings from the trestle
Description:  A view from Fred Fuller Park showing the wooden pilings from the trestle laying in the weeds as nature slowly reclaims them. The graded hill directly behind them is the interchange track ROW and just to the left side of the frame is where the trestle began. In the far background through the trees is westbound autorack train Q29910 on the CSX New Castle Sub (ex-B&O).

Title:  Walking east along the B&O-WLE interchange track ROW
