Deadly wreck of train 775.
Title:  Deadly wreck of train 775.
Description:  On 8-10-78 a straight truck loaded with cattle going to slaughter failed to yield for the westbound at Cty Rd 17 west of Hills. The truck hit the side of the engine right at the lead truck and derailed it and the first two cars. The train was traveling at 35 mph, the truck at 55. Both occupants of the truck were killed along with several cattle. Two of the crew members in 8087 were injured. The accident happened at 7:15 in the morning.

This was the first car I saw spotted on the local siding for the elevator to load. What a surprise, as the siding had no loading facilities. The elevator used an auger and grain truck to load these cars with corn.

Description:  Train 776 just passed under US Hwy 75 about 1/2 mile east of the Iowa/Mn border. It will be passing through Rock Rapids in about 4 miles. The Omaha branch from Luverne, MN to Doon, IA crossed the IC just in front of the locomotive and paralleled it on the west side through Rock Rapids.
