We chased 14 from Natron to the North end of Junction City at the grade at 661.3, after highballing out of Eugene. As soon as the crossing gates were lifted we heard the Amtrak engineer report over the scanner that they had just blown through a stack of tie plates that were stacked up on the west rail, thankfully only causing a severe "jolt" through the train, as he reported around 661.8-9. Very happy nothing bad came out of this, but i hope very badly the sociopath who put them there is caught, however unlikely that is. |

For most towns, finding two might be heaven for some SP fans, but with both LLW units repainted (one in PNWR orange, another into full SP black widdow, yes beautiful, but also seemingly disappeared off the map entierly as well) and the AERC 3859 repainted, two is nothing compared to what couldve been seen only a few years ago. There was also light snow falling, which is visable if you look for it. |

After about an hour of waiting due to some confusion about MP 651.6 where a medical emergency was happening, the IOASE is ready for the next leg of its journey. The confusion was caused by the fact that there are two locations of MP 651.6 in Eugene, one right on the main around NB departure yard, and the other at Danebo on the Coos Bay line. The emergency was at Danebo, and not the main but the train wasnt aloud to depart until the dispatcher was 100% sure near which line it was happening. |

First Springtime Catch, First Snow in The Valley |

Not much traffic on route today due to washouts, fallen trees, caused by the freak up to seven inches of snow that had fallen in some areas, but mostly the block was caused by Amtrak 14 that apparently had an axle slip off the rail near MacReddie Springs with passengers having to take busses out. Now after almost three hours of waiting around Meadowview Rd (this location) for the 5211 to get a crew change, we finally saw headlights far off in the distance as the train passed the Irving Lead, picked up speed, and finally met my camera as it heads to Portland's Lakeyard. |
