In the valley
Title:  In the valley
Description:  SLN 5 in the Canisteo valley. This is not normally a well lit shot, as its dark side most of the time. I took advantage of the Southern Tier gloom to get the angle not normally seen, and this panoramic view of the valley.

Must be a jet
Title:  Must be a jet
Description:  My notes dont show what train this is, but it was parked at Bevier St. At the time, JET 1 was the only train that did not yard at East Binghamton, so Im guessing this is JET 1 waiting on a crew. In a nice touch, the leader is one of the B&Ms last order of new power, GP40-2 303.

Thats a lot of power
Title:  Thats a lot of power
Description:  A side view of the train seen at a more head on angle elsewhere. I believe this is JET 1, which was typically overpowered, probably in hopes there would be enough units still running at the end of the trip to get it into the terminal.

Stretched out
Title:  Stretched out
Description:  The opposite side view of JET 1 shows the train stretched out on the Buffalo Runner, with a mix of power that this train seemed to get pretty routinely, including a B&M GP 9 that these trains seemed to get pretty routinely. Only four units today-either it was a light train, or Guilford was getting more confident.

Happy Fourth!!
Title:  Happy Fourth!!
Description:  For the third time in ten years, I caught a D&H Bicentennial unit. The prior times were in Oneonta in 1981, and Mechanicville in 1981. Today it's outside the shop in Binghamton. In a year, it will be on the Tiogal Central. This unit was one of eight(501-508) RS 3s rebuilt by MK in the late 70s. The others were gone by this time.

Title:  Fate is sealed
Description:  D&H 452 appears to be done, as it is now missing some windshield glass and other parts. Only a couple of weeks prior, I caught it working on a pusher set. Too bad, its a nice looking unit-much better than the Guilford brown on the rest of them.

Description:  ABBU, an empty grain train originating at the Port of Albany, has come out track 3 and now moves onto the Southern Tier Line at West BD, connecting off former DLW tracks to former Erie tracks at this point. Power is a mix of NYSW and NS, the NS C30-7 being on of about two dozen they committed to NYSW to help with their directed service operation of the D&H.

DLW station
Title:  DLW station
Description:  SLN 5 passes the former DLW station at Binghamton as it heads out track 3 for west BD and the Southern Tier Line. Note the area behind the station. At the time, it held the equipment owned by the Susquehanna Valley NRHS; also visible is the stack from the powerhouse that provided electricity for the station complex, and the Marconi tower, one of the first railroad radio installations in the US. Beyond the billboard is the site of the DLW freight house, which had been demolished to make way for the new stadium, now NYSEG Stadium, home to the Binghamton Mets, the NY Mets AA farm team.

Old Erie station
Title:  Old Erie station
Description:  Many fans went to Tioga Center to shoot trains at the well known twin semaphores. Few knew there was a station in that town as well. It was not hard to find, you just needed to follow a side street off NY 17C to get to it. It was in bad shape by the time I shot this in 1990, and had collapsed by the late 90s. NYK6 passes en route to Jersey.
