Album Info:I lived in Endicott NY from 1988 through 2006, an interesting time to be a rail photographer on the former Erie Lackawanna. This album shows Conrail trains on the former EL Susquehanna Division from Endicott to Gang Mills, as well as some connected lines, such as the ex LV Ithaca Branch and Lehigh Line in nearby PA, and the ex NYC line from Corning to Wellsboro PA

Title:  Gloomy day, high water
Description:  Another day, another day of rain. The spring of 1991 was so bad we just went out and shot trains anyway, since wed never see anything if we waited for sunny days. The excessive precipitation is showing in the adjacent Susquehanna, the water getting close to the top of the banks, putting a lot of trees in the river. Today's 51 car OIBU will manage to stay out of the drink.

Description:  Under NY 282. We see OIBU and its 116 cars about to roll under me at Smithboro in a shot that was harder to do than it looked. The NY 282 overpass here had no shoulder, and no sidewalk, so you took your life in your hands to get the shot.

Description:  This shot was hard to get, because you had to park at a local auction barn, whose owner was a bit cranky. The blades were not next to each other, which also worked against the shot, but I did it once-and of course got dinked. OIBU rolls west past the westbound blade, at stop, with the eastbound signal in the distance.

Title:  Between the signals
Description:  The same BUOI we saw at Arkport now passes CP Corning after working at Gang Mills. Hes shed some power, now with only his two lead units, the trailing two dropped at Gang Mills yard. Note the curved concrete on the bridge at far left. This is the 1951 alignment that moved the tracks out of the city. The Erie station built at that time was at this location, the platform between the two main tracks, as can be seen from the space that still exists there. The building was down below at street level, with a parking lot at the end of one of the local streets. It was torn down about the time of this photo. The DLW was adjacent to the present tracks, on the right. It was abandoned after the EL merger in 1960. This location was formerly known as West Glass, and was the end of the west leg of the wye that was formed by this connection to the Corning Secondary, which went north from this point to join the Chciago Line at Lyons.

Description:  Jacksons Pumpkin Farm was a popular destination in the fall, when the pumpkins came in and they set up a whole fantasy land at their main location out on NY 17C, across the tracks from this view. They kept a small tent here by the fields along the tracks for smaller parties in the summer. We see BUOI rolling past on a July afternoon. Not much going on for the passing train's 53 cars to interrupt.
