Another 12T, more off line power |
Description: |
Todays leader on 12T is a new UP SD79ACe, followed by an NS unit, and an FURX unit recently acquired from BNSF, still carrying their paint scheme. The set is wheeling 69 cars west past Chemung, which has gotten heavily treed in over the years. Compare with shots from the 90s in my Conrail or CP on the Southern Tier albums. |

12T with a mix |
Description: |
Of the NS trains that run the Tier, 12T seems to have the greatest power variety. I have seen BNSF, UP Wisconsin Central, MRL, IC , SOO and various lease units on the train. Today ranks right up there, with a UP unit leading, and a FURX ex BNSF unit trailing. We see the train at Chemung, where it is interesting to note how the foliage has grown over the years. Look at some of the shots in my albums taken in the early 90s, when there was hardly a tree here. Now you cant see around the curve to the old Erie station. |

New CN power |
Description: |
A then new CN ES44 rolls 12T west at Tioga Center. By this time, the Canadian train had been resymbolled 30T and 31T, were rerouted onto the D&H from Binghamton. But 12T tended to get all kinds of foreign power, so even though CN units had been off the line for a couple of years on the regular trains, they could occasionally show up here. |

Downsized |
Description: |
The area between the Erie and Lackawanna mains was once occupied by the large Erie freight house, a relic of the bygone days of LCL freight. It lasted a lot longer than it was useful, til Conrail tore it down in the run up to NS takeover in 1999. The building there now is loosely based on the Erie structure, now housing an office for the yard and local crews that work here. We see H 88 behind a typical GE and less typical GP 50 arriving with cars for the NYSW. |

H88 unusual leader |
Description: |
H 88 usually got the standard set of widecabs, but sometimes would run a spell where it got an interesting mix of power. On one of those days, we see a GP 59 an ex NW GP 38AC, and an ex Southern GP 38-2 leading 65 cars at Endicott. |
