Title:  Mixed up set
Description:  For a while in the 1990s, NYSW could put together a pretty good looking set of power. After Walter Rich passed, and most of the SD 45s were sold or scrapped, they picked up used diesels from a number of sources. The result was, it became harder and harder to find a matched set of power. This SU 100 is a case in point, rolling a 63 car train east past the Kirkwood water plant, though it does have one of the two SD 40T-2's that they had painted at the time.

Description:  We chased an eastbound detour train, probably Q 156, or possibly Q 404, I didnt note the symbol, to Susquehanna, then caught this Q 271 there going back. We were able to grab this shot along PA 171 where the tracks go away from the road at Red Rock. Thats my then girlfriend, now wife, Diane, getting a shot of the action too.

Description:  During summer track work season, CSX would send detour trains over NYSW on a daily basis. Mostly these were low priority trains, usually Q 403 and 404. Q 156 was a higher priority train that often made the trip via Binghamton. We see it here passing Kirkwood Industrial Park along US 11 with a UP leader, with 46 freight and 79 stacks for Jersey.

Description:  An SU 99 pulls up to QD with a mixed bag of power, mostly in ragged paint. The trailing unit is in yellowjacket, and the leader eventually got that scheme. The two Alcos were gone before they got painted, which is a shame, though second unit 3672 did get "NYSW" on the rear above the radiator. Seeing the yellow jacket scheme on big Alcos would have been a treat.

Title:  Switching Frito Lay
Description:  NYSW 3012 works at the Frito Lay plant in Kirkwood. Its interesting to see axle power working here. During Conrail days, this was the province of 4 motor power, though I did see an SD 50 here once.
