Title:  Making the grade
Description:  A pair of NYSW units sandwich a "plum" as we often called the blue PLM lease units, as it is about the finish the steady climb ot Gulf Summit. This is SLN 5, today with 115 stack platforms and a lone conventional freight car. Once over the top, its 35 miles and a ride across Starrucca to get to Binghamton, where a CP crew will take over for the trip to Buffalo. Note the trailing unit, NYSW 4040. This is one of the CSX financed units that served on the NYSW during the directed service of the D&H. It will soon be returning to CSX.

Title:  Back to New York
Description:  After running on the PA side since Narrowsburg, a necessity due to the lack of places to site a right of way on the NY side for the Erie at the time it was built, NTV 4 crosses the well know Mill Rift bridge across the Delaware, landing it back in NY at Sparrow Bush. HAN 2 in for a crew change
Title:  HAN 2 in for a crew change
Description:  HAN 2 is pulled up on the Buffalo Runner waiting for a new crew. Conrail would not let NYSW change crews on the main most of the time, so they had to either pull up the runner at QD for eastbounds, or back the train into the CP yard for westbounds. Todays train has an SD 45 and GP 38 for power, so there may be some diesel shuffling going on as well.

NY 7 with a local unit
Title:  NY 7 with a local unit
Description:  NYSW 2012 leads this NY 7 into Binghamton. While NYSW was not above using small power on road trains, the long hood first orientation of 2012 makes me think the stack outlawed before it got to Binghamton, and 2012 was sent out to retrieve the train. You never knew what to expect from the Susie Q. The 2012 leads a trio of SD 45s as a set of CP power sits on the 2 runner on the ex DLW in the distance.

SU 100
Title:  SU 100
Description:  SU 100 was the trackage rights train that started it all. When NYSW got the ex DLW Syracuse and Utica lines in 1982, they negotiated trackage rights from Passaic Jct to Binghamton over Conrail to move cars from one part of the operation to the other. Those trains were symbolled SU 99 west and SU 100 east. This SU 100 is getting ready to roll to Jersey with the usual non stack traffic. There must not have been an eastbound stack that day; NYSW usually added cars at Binghamton to any stacks going to Jersey.

Running in the rain
Title:  Running in the rain
Description:  Binghamton was the rain capital of the northeast, or so it seems. There were two weather conditions there: raining, and going to rain. Here we are in the rain along US 11 near the Kirkwood water plant as a motley mix of power that only NYSW could concoct rolls SLN5 west to a CP recrew at Binghamton with 150 platforms.

SD 70s on the move
Title:  SD 70s on the move
Description:  NYSW got three SD70Ms in the mid 90s, just about the time I became an over the road truck driver. As a result, I missed seeing them in action for the most part. Here are two headed east past Willow Run Foods in Kirkwood on a typically rainy day. There are 37 stack platforms and 36 TOFC on todays train.
