BNSF 7241
Title:  BNSF 7241
Description:  BNSF Railway train Z-LACNYC9-11 passes through the busy intersection of Rosecrans and Marquardt in Santa Fe Springs, California. This eastbound train is a Priority UPS-LTL Intermodal train, originating in Los Angeles CA and destined for New York NY. An impressive lash-up of locomotives is powering this train: BNSF ES44DC 7241, BNSF Dash 9-44CW 4528, Norfolk Southern Dash 9-44CW 9702, BNSF ES44DC 7831 and BNSF ES44C4 6888. This grade crossing is one of the most dangerous in the United States because it bisects a busy highway intersection, with a fifth highway joining Rosecrans just beside the crossing - making it a five-way intersection with several trains per hour passing through.

UP 1943
Title:  UP 1943
Description:  Union Pacific SD70ACe 1943, the railroads newest specially-painted locomotive, hustles through Cabazon, California, just minutes after the sun dropped behind the San Jacinto Mountains on November 18, 2017. The train was delayed roughly a half-hour due to some cretins not only placing debris on the tracks near Indio, but they were also seen pointing a rifle at a passing freight - so all rail traffic was halted until the area was deemed safe again. This six-car passenger special originated in Council Bluffs IA and was heading to Oakland CA. UP 1943 is painted to commorate United States Armed Forces, with the first third honoring the Air Force, the middle third the Coast Guard and Navy, and the final third painted in camoflage for the Army and Marines.

UP 119
Title:  UP 119
Description:  A short Union Pacific special train winds through the desert at Cabazon, California, just after sunset (on the Sunset Route!) on November 18, 2017. Six passenger cars (Missouri River Eagle, Katy Flyer, Sunshine Special, Portland Rose, Columbine and Kenefick) are deadheading from Council Bluffs IA to Oakland CA for winter storage. The train, PCBOA3-16, is being pulled by a pair of SD70ACes - 1943 ("The Spirit of Union Pacific") and 9088. But in this view, observation car 99 "Kenefick" is the center of attention as the train passes one of hundreds of wind generators found on windy Beaumont Hill.

AMTK 705 - New York NY - 03/15/18
Title:  AMTK 705 - New York NY - 03/15/18
Description:  On a bright, sunny and cold March day on Manhattan island in New York, Amtrak "Empire Service" train 280 has just passed under the George Washington Bridge (one of many that connect New York to New Jersey, and the GWB is part of New Jersey governor Chris Christie's legacy) as it makes its way from Niagra Falls, New York, to Penn Station in New York City - just a few miles ahead. This is the Fort Washington section of New York City, and the train is still paralleling the Hudson River as it heads south (or east, according to the Amtrak timetable). A recent series of cold Nor'easter storms is keeping Spring at bay for now, but beneath the adjacent park's bare trees, tulip and daffodil shoots are poking through the soil, indicating that Spring is not too far off. Amtrak P32AC-DM 705, a dual mode (third rail electric and diesel-electric) locomotive, is pulling this train consisting of Amfleet cars. AMTK 705 is looking very ragged at this point, and will most likely be getting repainted soon into the new scheme being applied to the rest of the P32AC-DM locomotives - the new scheme is a throw-back to the carrier's "Phase III" stripe scheme, with the addition of a large, colorful Empire Service logo to the sides just behind the cab. UP 8925 - Bryman CA - 12/17/18
Title:  UP 8925 - Bryman CA - 12/17/18
Description:  Twnenty-six miles west of Barstow, California, on BNSF's Cajon Subdivision, is the old Santa Fe station of Bryman. And it is here, five miles east of Oro Grande, that a westbound Union Pacific train (UP has trackage rights on BNSF's Cajon Sub), led by SD70ACe 8925, sits on the main because of a "trespasser strike." The 2018 BNSF Railway California Division Christmas Train has crossed over to the other main in order to get around this train as it heads from Barstow to Victorville to unload a few volunteers, and then head back to San Bernardino for the night. As for the UP intermodal train, radio chatter indicated that a transient had tried to hop on one of the engines as the train was slowly moving, and wasn't successful - or seriously injured.
