Description:  In an era before roller bearing axles, oiling the boxes of solid journal bearing axles was required between trips. With oil can in one hand and a lid lifting tool in another this car inspector adds oil to a caboose journal box at North Point, MD. In true railroad tradition, this car inspector has his pant cuffs secured with ankle straps. Best guess date 1975.
