Album Info:I always knew that the CHW and the Shenandoah Valley R.R. exchanged freight in Pleasant Valley but never knew when or how often? I had some time to kill so I took a quick drive to Pleasant Valley knowing that CHW's V91 would probably be working there. The SVRR makes about a 20 mile trip from Staunton, VA. Pleasant Valley is just a stones throw south of Harrisonburg. Several major company's operate there and the CHW is there life line. Its hard to believe that your so close to a city with 50K+ and probably 80,000 when our two universities are in full session, when your in Pleasant Valley. I have my doubts about this remaining such a rural area because of Harrisonburg's rapid development. Harrisonburg is already on her front door step! In 1980 when I graduated from high school the population was around 15,000 or 30,000 with one university and one college.

The Valley R.R.
Title:  The Valley R.R.
Description:  My mother called the other evening a to inform me that a friend of hers had given me an interesting gift and so here it is. Ms. Fryes late husband was a noted photography along with a partner of his by the name of Lupton Kaylor, who took the photograph. There is a name on the back which reads, D.L. Thomas. Ms. Frye told my dad that he was the President of the Valley R.R. at the time of this picture was taken. Im not sure if he is in this photograph? My dad was not sure when the picture was taken. He has lived here in Harrisonburg since 1929 but has no recollection of the Valley R.R. He does however remember watching the steam engines coming through on The Chesapeake & Western!
