Description:  Running a little behind schedule is NS 388. He has three engines today, a Catfish, Screaming Demon, and an HLCX (ex-UP) SD50. The lead unit had a fairly decent-sounding Nathan P135R24 horn on it.

NS empty hoppers
Title:  NS empty hoppers
Description:  NS empty hoppers roar west just after 5:00 PM with an all-horsehead lashup. Ironically, the lead unit is the newest GEVO on the NS roster. The second unit was spotted by me on the lead one other time I was here back in March.

NS intermodal extras
Title:  NS intermodal extras
Description:  NS intermodal extras (unknown symbol) eastbound, you can see the headlight appearing as it comes up the rollercoaster of mainline track. This is the final hill that the train will have to go over before it reaches the crossing. The green signal is one that you can't trust. This line is almost all ABS territory, therefore, it just means that the tracks are clear, not that a train is definitely coming.

Description:  Now it's close. The further railroad crossing signal is starting up. The total time between when this picture was taken and the one before it was only three minutes, so that goes to show you how fast this train was really going.
