Album Info:This album contains roster shot of the B30-7s which for the past eight or so years has been the back bone locomotive for locals in the south. Such states as Georgia, Alabama and the Carolinas. The B30 was the main stay for these jobs and are now just about all gone. The origanal roster consisted of 81 units compiled of SCL/LN (Family Lines) and Chessie System. CSX had the largest fleet of B30-7s after the merger. Most were from the Chessie System and as built had AAR type B trucks. These were all replaced with GE's FB2 type truck. The units from Family Lines were built to L&N specs and came delieved with the FB2 truck. The spotting feature that gives the former Family Lines units away, Is the haed light is mounted in the nose of the front or low hood. All former Chessie units had the head light up between the number boards. All former Family Lines units are in the low 5500s and the former Chessie units are the remainder. The only unit not origanal to the fleet was one former SBD/CSX B36-7 that was rebuilt and down rated to 3000hp and number CSXT 5581. This unit put the roster to 82 units untill retirement started. The rebuild project of the 5581 was propossed to extend the life of the B36-7s as local units, But was never repeted. They simply merged the B36s into local service with there B30s counter parts evan though they tended to be a little slick at the trottle. The B36-7s were built for high speed service.
