Album Info:One of Michigan's most famous lines was the Michigan Central's double track mainline from Chicago to Detroit, now owned and operated by NS, as the Michigan Line. This album will feature series photos taken on the Michigan Line between Kalamazoo and Detroit, as well as the Lansing Secondary running between Jackson and Lansing. My eventual goal is to cover most major locations and photo spots along the lines. Enjoy!

Recrew for 39J
Title:  Recrew for 39J
Description:  Due to the delay caused by the faulty airhose, 39J's starting crew ran out of time and had to be taken back to Jackson. A new crew was ferried out to replace them and continue on to Kalamazoo and Elkhart, Indiana; seen here boarding the lead unit on 39J.

Description:  Can you tell that I like this unit? :) NS 39J rolls past the Amtrak station in Albion. This was the last spot I caught 39J at. I VERY EASILY could have chased him further towards Marshall and Battle Creek, but instead I decided to chase 38J back to Jackson. Looking back on it now, I wish I'd continued chasing 39J to Battle Creek. It was a great train, and due to the airhose troubles was limited to 30 MPH, the whole way west.

Description:  This one I still can't figure out... After shooting 38J in Albion, I had to wait for about three minutes while he cleared crossings with his nearly 100 car train to get back to the main road, which was just as difficult to reach due to the fact that I had to go through Albion College. Somehow, I mananged to get ahead of 38J by about a minute before he got to Parma. Still, I barely had a second to spare once I had parked. 9496 leads the train past the old switch to the elevator. In the background is the bridge I stood on earlier to get 39J.

Description:  Approximately 10 miles north of Jackson lies the tiny town of Rives Junction. Once upon a time, Rives was the junction point with the Michigan Central's Jackson to Saginaw branch with the Jackson to Grand Rapids branch and an old interurban line. Today, the Grand Rapids branch and interurban line are gone, but NS' local jobs between Jackson and Lansing still keep the rails polished on the former Saginaw main. An interurban substation also stands here, just out of the picture to the right. This view looks south towards Jackson.
