Album Info:This former Milwaukee Road line was one of several radiating out of the Capital City to be put up for abandonment by the bankrupt carrier in the 1980s, despite the fact that it connected south-central Wisconsin's two largest cities. Along with several of the others, it was rescued by the state DOT and the multi-county Wisconsin River Rail Transit Commission and operated by short line Wisconsin & Calumet until WICT's takeover by the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad, which today operates the line as the Madison Subdivision. It serves as the main line of the WSOR's Southern Division, ferrying traffic north from Janesville bound for points on the branch lines out of Madison, and bringing traffic back from the branches and the Canadian Pacific's line from Portage to Janesville and the outside world. There is also considerable on-line traffic generated in the communities of McFarland, Stoughton, Edgerton, and Milton Junction. Union Pacific ballast trains to and from the quarry at Rock Springs on the Reedsburg line operated in the summers until 2011. The line was upgraded to continuous welded rail in 2010-11 after two major derailments in 2007 contributed to its being slow-ordered to 10 MPH.

Shoving the United pickup back to the rest of the train
Title:  Shoving the United pickup back to the rest of the train
Description:  The 30th Anniversary decals on WAMX 4183 (previously WSOR 4030, prior to that WSOR 4025 numbered/painted for that anniversary in 2005) held up reasonably well for 5-6 years, then started to look really bad around sometime in 2016. Either the short hood has recently been touched up, or the white goose logo that was originally on the nose has peeled off entirely. Underneath it all, the red and gray paint is still in good condition, so if they'd just paint that conductor's side door and scrape the decals all the way off it would look pretty good!

T003 dropping their train at the west switch to the Rotamer siding
Title:  T003 dropping their train at the west switch to the Rotamer siding
Description:  They'll pick up the cut of covered hoppers there. This siding was built in 2015, stretching from Rotamer Road to Milton-Harmony Town Line Road. The Madison/Horicon trains often leave cars for each other here, freeing up space in the yard and reducing the amount of time road trains have to spend there.

Trouble with the South Wye
Title:  Trouble with the South Wye
Description:  I'd see this trio leave the Janesville yard with 4181 leading and 40th Anniversary 4170 trailing. Surprisingly, this was apparently T004. Not sure what they were doing light power in the Janesville yard, having left their train behind at Milton and now going to get it. Due to catching every single red light possible, I wasn't able to get ahead of them again until I found them stopped here. The radio-controlled power switch at the south end of the wye wasn't responding to their tones, and it would cost them about an hour while a maintainer came to sort it out.

WAMX 4170 from the dog park
Title:  WAMX 4170 from the dog park
Description:  I was frustrated by the inability to get a closer shot of WAMX 4170's short hood end bathed in sunlight, suspecting (correctly) that the clouds would build back in by the time the wye switch problems were sorted and the train on the move again. A careful study of Google Maps aerial view revealed the existence of a public dog park just south of the substation next to the switch. I picked my way through the melting, but still deep snow and poop piles to the northeast corner of the fence. The view it affords isn't stellar, still partially obstructed by a hill and the vegetation on it, but better than nothing. This is after I had trudged back to my car to retrieve my stepladder for some additional elevation.
