My first train of 2010!
Title:  My first train of 2010!
Description:  Nearly three months into the new year, I finally bag my first train. This may be the Northtown KCK, but I can't swear to it. This job was stopped in Long Lake for about forty minutes before it rolled on down into Minneapolis. Amusingly enough, while out seeking pics, I saw a car going east on the Highway 12 bypass (foreground) honk it's horn several times trying to get the hogger in the 76 to sound his air horn. He gave a short blast in reply! Wonder if that car was full of railfans?

Caliente, CA, Or Long Lake, MN?
Title:  Caliente, CA, Or Long Lake, MN?
Description:  If it weren't for the BNSF numbers, this freight would look right at home at Caliente in the Golden State en route to the "loop" at Tehachapi, rather than charging for Willmar on the Wayzata sub in Gopher Land.

Title:  From Cabooses To DPUs

Title:  Through A Lense Backlit

Sittin' On The Track Named "Main"
Title:  Sittin' On The Track Named "Main"
Description:  A common occurence along the Wayzata sub in Long Lake is trains stopping on the main track on the other side of the sound wall bordering Orchard Lane on the south side of the New 12/BNSF corridor until it is clear to head on into Minneapolis. Such happened to be the case with this eastbound job today. The guy looking at me in the mini-van probably wondered: "Just what is that guy doing on that hill taking pictures of a train?"

Wyoming To Wisconsin
Title:  Wyoming To Wisconsin

Minneapolis Ho!
Title:  Minneapolis Ho!
Description:  For a minute or two this train was stopped by red signals facing west until the signal on the main track facing east was turned on to red, allowing this eastbound to continue its last lap into Minneapolis. Some of the units doubtless were along for the ride not providing power, as in at least the case of the MP15.

Title:  BNSF Says This Is "Barry Avenue"
Description:  At least it does on the signal power box at the grade crossing on the west side of the depot grounds. "No train horn 10 P.M. to 7 A.M." huh. What if there is a drunk on the tracks here? Can the enginner blast the horn in an emergency? Hope so. Train horns are annoying, yes, but they can save your life too.

Title:  But Wayzata Says This Is Grove Lane East

"How Soon Will The Cranes Be Here?"
Title:  "How Soon Will The Cranes Be Here?"
Description:  I always think of that line from the rip-roarin' 1964 WWII flick THE TRAIN whenever I see one of these babies.

Still Gawking
Title:  Still Gawking
Description:  "Disaster strikes!" goes a title card in the movie THE WRONG BOX when two trains crash into each other. Same could be said for the messy derailment which covered this area only four days previously. Folks were still out checking out the cleared-up scene west of the Ferndale Road grade crossing as this westbound freight grandly paraded past with a "BNSF"-ized warbonnet leading an H-1 sister dash-nine. Note the churned-up earth remaining from the derailment and the fresh rails and ballast on the siding where it happened.

Derailment? What Derailment?
Title:  Derailment? What Derailment?
Description:  A westbound freight passes a parked MOW job in a chance in a million moment for me. I didn't plan to get the BN hack into the shot, it happened by pure chance! They sure did a rush (but good) job getting the siding back into action after the calamity of the coal train derailment on June 30th, 2010.
