BAR BL2 #557 - Bangor & Aroostook |
Description: |
This "branch line" BL2 diesel built by EMD in April of 1949 found a home with the Bangor and Aroostook. After service to the BAR, it found its way to the tourist train business. Although no location or photographer was listed and only the date June, 1980 was given for the slide, this appears to be near Northern Maine Junction. The station however is eerily similar to one in Vanceboro, Maine. |

BAR BL2 #557 - Bangor & Aroostook |
Description: |
Heading out with a tourist train is this odd diesel, a BL2 model built by EMD in April of 1949. Although an ugly duckling, it ranks up there in my favorite diesel list, partly due to the Monon RR having used BL2's in Indiana. The "BL" stands for "branch line" which this lighter weight diesel was built to be used on for local deliveries. No location or photographer was listed and only June, 1980 was given as the date. |
