Amtrak 938 is paked on a storage track at Caltrains 4th and King St. Station in downtown San Francisco. Caltrain purchased the AEM-7 and its sister 929 from Amtrak for testing of their electrification system. While the system is still being constructed, the two units are stored on track 12 at the station, closest to King Street. One of the two units will be used for the testing, and the other will be used as a parts locomotive. After testing, the Caltrain board has agreed to "dispose" of the two locomotives. I'm guessing they are referring to scrapping the engines, although one or both of the engines appear as if they could be cosmetically restored if an organization were able to purchase one or both. |

Unfortunately, this is the best image I will get of Caltrain 938 in Amtrak paint. The AEM-7 was being stored at San Franciscos 4th & King station along with sister unit 929. The two units were hard to access, and so the only image I would get would be from the car as I passed. Towards the end of 2021, the unit was moved to Caltrains CEMOF facility, and was repainted into a new Caltrain paint scheme. The engine was last spotted on January 28 returning to CEMOF from a ceremony in San Francisco. Behind 938 is Caltrain cab-car 113. |

Caltrain #506 Wreck |
| Description: |
Caltrain 919 sits at the site of a collision on March 11. The engine, leading train 506, struck three MOW vehicles in San Bruno at 10:33 AM, one minute before its scheduled stop at Millbrae. According to the NTSB report from the accident, the train impacted the MOW equipment at 63 MPH, 16 MPH under the speed limit. The MOW crew had ceded track occupancy at around 9:58 AM, but was still on track 2 when the southbound train entered the area. Caltrain 919 dragged the MOW equipment around 500 feet from the site of impact. The unit derailed, and recieved damage to the nose, cab, and front pilot of the engine. Wrecked Caltrain 3819 |
| Description: |
Caltrain 3819 lies charred amongst the wreckage of a March 11 collision with Maintenance of Way equipment. The accident occurred just north of the Millbrae Caltrain/BART station. Nobody was killed, although 13 people were injured. F40PH-2CAt 919, which had been leading the train, derailed and received damage to the front pilot and nose. Car 3819, the first car on the train, caught fire and partially burned. It is unlikely 919 or 3819 will return to service.
