Double Wyes |
Description: |
The View from the Texas School Book Depository Building looking west. In the bottom is the roof of Tower 106, an interlocking tower that governed the approach to an MKT yard just out of frame to the bottom right. The three tracks closest to the camera are Dallas Area Rapid Transit tracks that make up two legs of a wye connecting DARTs Green and Yellow lines (out of frame) with their Blue and Red lines to Union Station (two closest tracks). The third DART track is the connecting track, which carries no regular service trains. The two tracks entering from the west (background) are the UP-BNSF main tracks, entering from Fort Worth and swinging southeast, through Union Station (out of frame to the left), and continuing to where they split south of the city. The track branching off of the mainline from the left is the Trinity Rail Express line to downtown. The track branching from the main to the TRE line is the connector track, completing the second of the two wyes. |

ATSF 2301 |
Description: |
Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe 2301 is an ALCO HH600, built in 1937. It was one of two HH600s purchsed by the railroad. The HH in the model description stood for High-Hood, and the 600 denoted the horsepower, which came from a 6-cylinder 531 engine. The locomotive was retired in 1964, then served at two grain elevators before leaving service sometime between 1970-1992, and is now on display in Temple, Texas. She has the honor of being the oldest Santa Fe diesel in existance and the second Santa Fe diesel to ever operate. |
