Album Info:Vermont Railways is running daylight detour trains over the New England Central Railroad (ex-Central Vermont) between Essex Junction, VT and Bellows Falls, VT. The detours are due to the VTR main line between Burlington and Rutland being severed during a tunnel rebuilding and clearance project in Middlebury, VT. Freight cars that need to be moved from Burlington to Rutland are detoured down the NECR main line from Essex Junction to Bellows Falls, then across the Green Mountain gateway (a VTR operating division) to Rutland. The New England Central railroad typically operates two nighttime freight trains over this track, plus it hosts Amtrak’s Vermonter in daylight, so it is quite rare to catch a daylight freight operating over this very scenic trackage which features multiple depot buildings and bridges . I chased a VTR detour train from Roxbury, VT southbound to Bellows Falls, VT, then I chased the counterpart northbound detour train from Bellows Falls up to Bethel, VT. A scenic and seldom-photographed piece of track traversing Vermont plus a portion of New Hampshire.
