Album Info:Here are both sides of fourteen "Vanishing Vistas" portraits depicting various Pennsylvania Railroad and Amtrak locomotives. They are part of a wide-ranging series of portraits and calendars that are published by Mr. Lyman E. Cox and associates of Sacramento, California.

Here, it's stopped near Hillside, New Jersey, on 21 September 1941.

Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9690 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EH-15's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9690 was constructed as an EH-15 in April of 1949, later regeared and classified as an EF-15A, and retired in October of 1967 after just 18 years of revenue service.

Description:  Here is the front side of a "Vanishing Vistas" portrait that was published by Lyman E. Cox in 1972. Photo by Mr. Stan Kistler. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5692 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are B-1 (0-6-0) electric switchers built in Juniata and rated at 570 horsepower each. #5692 was constructed in December of 1934 and retired in May of 1967 after 33 years of faithful service. In this context, they're awaiting their next assignment at the Harrisburg Passenger Station on 10 January 1957.

Both are J-1A (2-10-4) "Texans" built in Juniata. #6430 was built during September of 1943 and retired in February of 1959, while #6406 was built during June of 1943 and retired in August of 1958. Here, they're parked in Pitcairn Yard ~ having been decommissioned ~ on 3 March 1957.

Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1361, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1918, retired in September of 1956 after amassing over 2,469,000 revenue miles, enshrined at the Horseshoe Curve on 8 June 1957, restored for excursion service during 1987-1988, withdrawn from service and disassembled because of safety concerns, and is now being restored again for further excursion service.

They're pulling a mail and express train through the Paoli Passenger Station on its way to Harrisburg and points West in February of 1968.

In this context, they're pulling Amtrak's version of the once-fabled "Broadway Limited" near Millerstown, Pennsylvania, in July of 1981.
