Album Info:Here is a four-page article entitled "Poppet-Valve Pacific." It was published originally in the October 1941 issue of "Railroad" magazine, pages 65-68. This article concerns the installation and testing of poppet valves on Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5399, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" locomotive during 1939-1940. No author is specified. "The altered Pacific's maximum indicated horsepower, determined by further testing in Altoona, is 4,267 at 75.8 miles per hour ~ as against a maximum of slightly over 3,500 for a conventional K-4, recording 65." (Pages 67-68)
