Description:  Fairly nice original Alco-Brooks builder's photo of Chicago Great Western 2-6-2 Prairie style #182 fresh out off the assembly line. Specs - serial #25695, F1 class, 73" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 21x26" cylinders, engine weight of 183,300 lb, tractive effort of 30,000 lb. Photo is from the Harold K. Vollrath collection.

Description:  This Chicago Great Western 4-6-2 Pacific started out as a 2-6-2 but in 1920 the CGW shops rebuilt it into a K2A class Pacific. Description:  This Chicago Great Western 4-6-2 Pacific started out as a 2-6-2 Prairie style loco #182 but was converted by the CGW shops in 1922. Description:  Here is another Chicago Great Western shops rebuild from a 2-6-2 Prairie style locomotive into the 4-6-2 Pacific configuration. Built by Alco-Rhode Island as a 2-6-2 in September 1902 as #250 class F3, it had 21X28 cylinders and 63" drivers, boiler pressure 200 lb., 33,320 lb. tractive effort. It was rebuilt by the CGW in 1910 to #652 class H2, a 2-6-6-2 with 21&35X28 cylinders, boiler pressure 200 lb., 52,265 lb. tractive effort. It was rebuilt again in August 1915 to #952 class K6s, a 4-6-2, 200 lb. boiler pressure, 21½X28 cylinders, and a modest 34,925 lb. tractive effort, rebuilt one final time in December 1920 to class K6a, 23X28 cylinders, boiler pressure 180 lb., 35,972 lb. tractive effort. The drivers remained 63" diameter throughout the rebuilding. The entire K6s/K6a class was scrapped in 1932. No date, location or photographer listed for this older photo copy.

Description:  This little yard swticher was built for the Chicago Great Western (nicknamed the Corn Belt Route for its Midwest locations) by Alco-Pittsburgh in February of 1919, serial #60456. It served until being sold for scrap to the Purdy Co in September, 1949. No date, location or photographer given for the photo.
