UP 6804, UP 7246, UP 6771
Title:  UP 6804, UP 7246, UP 6771
Description:  An empty coal train approaches E. Snell Rd. as it heads southwest via CN, former SOO, rails at Oshkosh, WI on 22 Jul. '17. Train had 3 locomotives, UP 6804, UP 7246, UP 6771. Train was likely returning from Wisconsin Public Service's Pulliam Power Plant, a.k.a. J. P. Pulliam Generating Station, at Green Bay, WI. I captured the same trio of locomotives hauling a northbound loaded coal train at Stroebe, WI on 16 Jul. I was surprised to notice that all three locomotives must have been turned on a wye at some point, all three were cab forward heading north and now they are all cab forward heading south. I was standing at what used to be the former C&NW grade crossing. The border between the City of Oshkosh and the Town of Oshkosh is quite convoluted in this area. The land to the left of the active rails in front of me and the land on both sides of the active rails behind me is the Town of Oshkosh, but the land to the right of the active rails in front of me is the City of Oshkosh. Go about 400' behind me and the land on both sides of the active rails is the City of Oshkosh.

IC 2720 and CN 5636
Title:  IC 2720 and CN 5636
Description:  CN through freight parallels Hwy. 41 and passes the Hwy. G overpass as it heads southwest via former SOO rails at Snells, WI on 12 Aug. '17. Snells is now little more than a map dot in the Town of Neenah, Winnebago Co. A Post Office was established 4 May 1876, originally called Snell’s Station, sometimes referred to as Snell’s Crossing. This small, rural community once included a depot, cheese factory, sawmill, school, and stockyard. Snells was located at Mile 183 on the SOO’s Trevor to Somerset line and Mile 173.1 on the C&NW’s Milwaukee to Marinette line. The former SOO main line lies between the train and the highway. It does not look like any real remnants of the original community remain. Even the station sign, erected after the depot was removed, is gone. Train had four locomotives, IC 2720 and CN 5636 leading and CN 5639 and CN 8913 mid-train.

UP 6845 and UP 8482
Title:  UP 6845 and UP 8482
Description:  An empty coal train idles away on the CN, former C&NW, siding at Stroebe, WI on 12 Aug. '17. Train was returning from Wisconsin Public Service's Pulliam Power Plant, a.k.a. J. P. Pulliam Generating Station, at Green Bay, WI and had three locomotives, UP 6845 and UP 8482 pulling and UP 6368 pushing. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI until 14 Apr. '16 (not Outagamie Co., where Stroebe was erroneously placed on this site)). The train rests amid the ongoing reconstruction of the Hwy. 41/Hwy. 441 (a.k.a. the Tri-County Expressway)/Hwy. 10 interchange (a.k.a. the Polish Connection). The overpass in the background is the connection from westbound Hwy. 10/Hwy. 441 (a.k.a. the Tri-County Expressway) to northbound Hwy. 41. The columns partially visible at left support the new, second bridge to carry eastbound traffic over Little Lake Butte des Morts. The columns partially visible at right support the original Roland Kampo Bridge (being extensively rebuilt) which will now only carry westbound traffic over Little Lake Butte des Morts. The interchange opened to traffic on 30 Nov. '75. When Hwy. 10 was reconstructed and relocated ca. '97, this interchange was not simultaneously reconstructed to form a full interchange, but the ongoing, extensive expansion and reconstruction will make it a full interchange as well as increase traffic capacity.
