Album Info:Here is a three-page article entitled "New PRR Service: Trailers On Flatcars." It was published originally in the June 1954 issue of "Pennsy" magazine, pages 1-3. No author is specified. "The idea of co-ordinating rail transportation and truck terminal service is no stranger on the PRR. As early as 1923, the Railroad began operating short truck routes to supplement freight train service wherever traffic could thus be expedited. In 1931, the PRR pioneered with the use of movable truck bodies which could be lifted off the beds of trucks by cranes and placed on gondolas ~ an awkward but ingenious forerunner of the 'piggyback' idea. In 1932, the PRR started door-to-door service for pickup and delivery of less-than-carload freight." (Page 2).
