Album Info:What a difference. After selling our family home in Stouffville after 22 years, we now retire to Niagara Falls, where it appears that I am about 40 years too late to see all the real action down here. I've never seen so many abandoned rails - both CN and CP and affiliates. However, there is still some decent local freight transfers - including Trillium Railways and their modest fleet of old ALCO switchers. It has taken me several months to get the rhythm of the trains down here, but I now seem to be settling in to the locations and timing of the trains in the area.

Description:  Easily my most satisfying train chasing day since the move to Niagara – due mainly to the unexpected encounter with a CP freight transfer to the small CN Southern Yard. Seeing CP trains on CN track is quite a rare treat. And using the modified trackage in the Stevensville area linking CP to CN track to Fort Erie was even neater since these wyes and switches see very little train action.

Description:  I knew that the CP freight transfer would probably result in the train returning to CP Lambert yard (where they appear to be the resident switchers). So I parked myself on the Miller Road overpass and was treated to this shot. Note the wild entanglement of tracks in the distance. It’s really an illusion. Basically, only one of the many branches is now in any kind of regular use.

Description:  I thought that the CP freight transfer on CN tracks was my catch of the month until I spotted this thing of beauty in the most unlikely of places – at CP’s small Lambert Street Yard in west Welland. After doing a little research, I find out it’s an ex-GO Transit commuter – obviously newly refurbished and upgraded – apparently destined for use in Montreal Commuter service. Totally cool!
