Viewing Album:  Conrail’s Juniata shops and Altoona graveyard in August, 1978

Album Info:On August 18 and 21, 1978, the Juniata backshop included former EL, RDG, and PC 4-axle EMDs, an ex-PC SD40 and SD45, an ex-CNJ RS3, and a PC six-axle Alco all in various states of service or salvage. In the nearby deadlines, many former EL and PC RS-3’s, EL and NYC E-8A’s, a PC RS-11 and RS27, and a RDG SW-1 filled the rows of dead units. Some were stenciled CR, but many remained to the end in their predecessor road’s colors and road numbers.

The cab unit was not the ex-DL&W dual-headlight 812(CR 4002) or 822(CR 4012), as that unit appeared in a different section of the deadline, but appears to have been 832. Judging by the condition of 832, CR may have taken this units number for the rebuilt unit later used as part of the OCS (CR 4021).
