Album Info:Here is a five-page article by Mr. E.L. Thompson entitled "Washington Union Station." It was published originally in the December 1940 issue of "Trains" magazine, pages 13-17. "Washington Union Station is both a through and a stub station. That means that some tracks terminate in the station, while others pass through. There are 32 tracks all together, the first 20 terminating on the upper level. The next nine go through the lower level and on under Capitol Hill, headed southward. Three additional low-level tracks have no connection with the tunnel, being used primarily for loading purposes. Some unusual and difficult problems of operation are presented because of such a layout." (Page 13)
