L&N 4-6-2 152
Title:  L&N 4-6-2 152
Description:  On New Years Day 1952 Louisville & Nashville K-2A Pacific 152 was parked on the median of Elysian Fields Avenue, next to the French Quarter, where it was providing steam for occupied Pullman cars. Back in the days before New Orleans had an abundance of hotel rooms, sleeping cars were regularly used to accommodate visitors who were here for major events such as the Sugar Bowl and Mardi Gras.

By this time in its career, the 152 was usually assigned to the Pensacola Division, and it had been towed in from Mobile because it did not have Automatic Train Stop equipment for use on the line into New Orleans. The locomotive was built by Rogers in 1905 and was the L&N's third Pacific. It was donated to the Kentucky Railway Museum in 1957 and is the only preserved L&N Pacific.

NOPSI Streetcars
Title:  NOPSI Streetcars
Description:  There were no less than four New Orleans Public Service Inc. streetcars in this view at the foot of Canal Street, which was then the city's main thoroughfare. This was the end of the line, where the cars turned and awaited their next run. The elevated walkway behind the cars provided pedestrian access over Southern Pacific, Louisville & Nashville and New Orleans Public Belt tracks to the Mississippi River ferry landing. The turret on the other side of the walkway was on the L&N station and the roof next to it was the L&N trainshed. The opening scene of the 1951 movie A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, where Blanche DuBois gets off of a train, was filmed at this station. (approximate month and day)

Mississippi Central 2-8-2 124
Title:  Mississippi Central 2-8-2 124
Description:  Mississippi Central 2-8-2 124 was at Hattiesburg near the end of its career on the MSC. The Mikado had been built by Alco’s Brooks Works (63168) in December 1923 as J.J. The 124 was sold to the Green Brothers Gravel Co. in June 1953 for use at Franklinton, Louisiana and it was scrapped in September 1965.

Description:  This was the rear of New Orleans Public Service’s CANAL STATION as seen from Bienville Avenue at the corner of North White Street. The trolleybuses on the left and in the middle were built by Marmon-Herrington on 1949 for service on the CITY PARK and ST. CLAUDE routes, and were always based here; while the ones on the right had been built by the St. Louis Car Co. in 1947 for operation on the FRERET and JACKSON lines, and were initially based at ARABELLA STATION before being reassigned here. In the center background, on the other side of Iberville Street, was CANAL line streetcar 930. Streetcars were parked on the other side of Iberville, behind these buses. Unlike all of these buses, car 930 was still in service in 2020, on the ST. CHARLES line. (approximate date of photo)
