Here are several original photos that I took of Berwind-White, Pennsylvania Railroad, Amtrak, and Metro-North locomotives that eventually became museum exhibits, excursion line motive power, and/or revenue service power.

Museum Bound. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 August 1961. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #7128, #7170, and three others that are not visible. All five are EFS-17M's built by EMD in 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. They are pulling a 50-car eastbound TrucTrain around the Horseshoe Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. Wave to the head-end brakeman in the second unit! As of 04 July 2016, or 55 years later, #7128 ~ now numbered "7580" ~ is in active excursion service with Steam Into History at New Freedom, Pennsylvania.

Shown here is PRR engine #4913, a GG-1 built in Altoona during January of 1942. It is pulling a southbound passenger train to Washington, DC. #4913 is now on exhibit at the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

BWCX "Nancy," 0-4-0, 1963
Description:
Museum Bound. Here is an original photo that I took at the Berwind-White Railroad Car Shops in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, during the Summer of 1963. Shown here is the Vulcan 0-4-0 steam locomotive named "Nancy." The engineer is Bob Wingard. The builder's plate indicates "Vulcan Locomotive Works ~ 1918." This locomotive was retired during the Winter of 1963-1964, so it served faithfully for around 46 years! Despite all of the thousands of steam engines that were built by and for the Pennsylvania Railroad, this was the last operating steam engine in Blair County! "Nancy" is now on exhibit at the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Museum Bound. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 28 March 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #4887 and #4913. Both are GG-1's built in Altoona: #4887 was built during April of 1939, but #4913 was built during January of 1942. They are arriving with southbound passenger train #121, the "Congressional." The time is 12:26. #4913 is now on exhibit at the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Museum Bound. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train near Pinecroft, Pennsylvania, on 26 June 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #2249, #2229, and #2206. All are EF-22's built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. They are pulling a 160-car eastbound mixed-cargo freight train with caboose #477243. This photo was taken at the Route 483 Bridge. Up to October of 2010, at least, #2249 was in active excursion service with the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad in Cumberland, Maryland, as number "501."

Up to March of 2014, at least, #2206 was in active revenue service: first as Palouse River and Coulee City Railroad's "3004" in Walla Walla, Washington; later as Webb Asset Management Company's "3023" in Wallula, Washington.

They are pulling a 95-car westbound ore train with N-8 caboose #478170. This photo was taken at the Route 483 Bridge. As of October 2014, #2350 was in active revenue service as Metro-North Commuter Railroad's number "104."

As of 04 July 2016, or 51 years later, #2250 ~ now numbered "2198" ~ is in active excursion service with the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad in New Hope, Pennsylvania.

PRR 4666, "Doodlebug," 1965
Description:
Museum Bound. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad equipment in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 18 September 1965. Shown here is a front-quarter view of PRR #4666, a J.G. Brill Gas-Electric Model 660 "Doodlebug" built in 1930. It had been retired from active service on the PRR and was awaiting final disposition in the Hollidaysburg Yards. Eventually, it was reconditioned for excursion service ~ including the Arcade & Attica Railroad, the Penn View Mountain Railroad, the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad, as well as the Black River & Western Railroad. As of 02 July 2016, it belongs to the Allentown & Auburn Railroad in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.

PRR 5898, EP-22, 1965
Description:
Museum Bound. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train below the Muleshoe Curve on the New Portage Branch Line west of Duncansville, Pennsylvania, on 17 October 1965. Shown here are four PRR passenger engines. The lead locomotive is #5898, an EP-22 built by EMD in 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. All four engines are of the same model and vintage, so there's 9,000 head-end horsepower at work here. They are pulling the very first "Horseshoe Curve Excursion" sponsored by the Lancaster Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. The "Excursion" departed Lancaster bright and early on a Sunday morning, following the PRR's mainline through Harrisburg to Huntingdon. There, it switched over to the Petersburg-Hollidaysburg Branch Line and followed the undulating Juniata River to Hollidaysburg ~ where the Railfans were treated to tours of the PRR's Samuel Rea Shop. After leaving Hollidaysburg, the "Excursion" passed WYE Tower and took the New Portage Branch Line via the Muleshoe Curve up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin. There, it passed through the westbound Allegheny Tunnel, navigated the wye at Gallitzin, and passed through the eastbound New Portage Tunnel on its way down the Alleghenies. At the Horseshoe Curve, the "Excursion" stopped to allow the Railfans to visit the PRR's K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" #1361 enshrined there. After all were safely back on board, the train continued down the Mountains toward Altoona and the return trip to Lancaster ~ a round trip of over 350 happy miles! As of 04 July 2016, or 51 years later, this unit ~ still numbered "5898" ~ is in active excursion service with the St. Louis, Iron Mountain, & Southern Railway at Jackson, Missouri.

Shown here is PRR engine #5809 and two other units whose numbers are not visible. #5809 is an EP-22 built by EMD in 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. They are pulling an eastbound mail/express train. This photo was taken where the tracks bridge the Little Juniata River west of the stone quarry crossing, just off of State Route 453. In later years, #5809 was reconditioned in 1975 and placed in active excursion service ~ first with the Juniata Terminal, later with Mr. Bennett Levin of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Museum Bound. Here is an original photo that I took of an Amtrak train in Larchmont, New York, on 29 August 1984. Shown here is Amtrak engine #915, an AEM7 built by GM-EMD in January of 1981 and rated at 7,000 horsepower. It is pulling a five-car northbound passenger train through Larchmont Station to New Haven, Connecticut. #915 is presently on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg.
