Album Info:I rode, then chased a Father’s Day special on Vermont Railways from Rutland to Ludlow, VT, and return. It was the final event of the NRHS national convention, held in Rutland this year. Road power was ex-Rutland RS-1 number 405. This is a first-generation diesel I’ve been riding behind and chasing since the 1970’s. I was accompanied by my grandson, my son-in-law, and my daughter. Daughter Debbie chased the eastbound leg of the train to Ludlow, then changed seats with me so I could chase the westbound return leg, with 405 running long hood forward. What a pleasure to take my 4-year old grandson on a passenger excursion powered by a first-generation diesel! I remarked to fellow travelers on the train that I had ridden behind #405 with his mother when SHE was 4 years old! A memorably good day for me, both riding and chasing a familiar and well-loved diesel locomotive.
