Album Info:A comparatively new tourist / steam railroad in Pennsylvania. It does a great job of re-creating the Civil War era. Abraham Lincoln travelled on this route in 1863 enroute to Gettysburg to deliver his famous Gettysburg Address. The steam engine is a replica of what locomotives looked like in the 1860's, and it pulls a period-looking trainset of wooden-sheathed coaches, which are converted 40-foot flat cars. I chased the 1:00 train which departs from New Freedom and goes down the hill to Glen Rock, PA., then I rode the 2:30 train which goes beyond Glen Rock up to Hanover Junction, PA. The return (southbound) trip features a 5-mile 3% grade. In PRR days, this was a pusher district.
